Computer Science / Or Something Else?
Ok im going to be a senior in high school next year and when i go to collage im thinking about going into computer science. But i have been told that all the people in that area are really weird…are there normal people there? I am still not quite sure what i want to do. im thinking i want to go into something with computers…so i thought programming (like making programs, games ect). im good at art and am just starting getting use to graphics design. I work on computers download lots of programs and themes, and love messing with computer. (so what do you think ill be good at…job wise?)…When i think of dream job im thinking about working on an online game..like wow (right now im really interested in LOTRO).
Basically im asking…are programmers all weird (or at least a great majority)
and what job/profession should i go into?
Hum….Well… A lot of people that make a living writing code fall somewhere on the Aspergers spectrum. When I was your age….people ‘like that’ (which included myself) were just called nerds.
And…yeah, some of us tend to be a bit….weird? I’m not sure that’s a good word. Idiosyncratic? Yeah. Eccentric? Yeah, that works. Aspy’s (formerly known as Nerds) don’t always have the best social skills. They can be hard to get to know, so it’s usually easier to just label them as weird and move along.
If art and design are your strong points, then you probably aren’t a nerd with Aspergers 
You might be more the artsy/fartsy type that thinks that colors and visual layout matter. It doesn’t really, at least not to us.
But it does matter, if you want build something that appeals to everyone, not just the nerdy/aspy people.
If you are good at visual design, and you have good computer skills, then, yeah…there is a demand out there for people with those skills. And yeah….you might have to work with some people you consider ‘weird’ or ‘eccentric’ or just a bit Aspy . Learn to deal…
